· Turbidimetry: particles in solution cause a decrease in transmitted light. Machine components identical to spectrophotometer. Independent of wavelength, so wavelength not important, just decrease in light reaching detector. Particles must aggregate to make turbid.
· Nephlometry: light scattered by particles measured at an angle to beam of incident light. Detector at an angle to incident light passing through sample, usually 90 degrees. Both monochromators set for same wavelength
