Patient Data

40 year old male , came recently from Yemen few days ago.

Clinical Data

Severe Gastroenteritis with severe watery diarrhea.

No Fever or abdominal distension.

Diffuse abdominal tenderness.

Related Laboratory Results

S.Potassium: 2.5 mmol/L (R.R.: 3.6 - 5.1).

Normal Renal and liver Function.

Gram stain for colonies

Comment / Findings

Positive direct antigen test

TCBS agar show small round opaque yellow colonies.

Gram Negative bacilli. Pleomorphic in shape , occasionally curved or comma shaped. Sometimes possess polar, sheathed monotrichous or multitrichous flagella.

Final Diagnosis

Cholera gastroenteritis
