15 year old male

Clinical Data

Urethral discharge , burning micturition.

History of sexual exposure. Purulent urethral discharge. Left inguinal lymph node is palpable non tender.

Urethral swab for gram stain and culture / sensitivity was taken.

Normal CBC, Renal and liver functions.

Gram stain for colonies

Comment / Findings

Direct Gram stain for the urethral smear show: gram negative diplococci found both intra and extracellular of neutrophils.

Chocolate Agar: Small glistening raised colorless colonies.

Gram stain for the agar colonies show: gram negative diplococci with capsular halo.

Final Diagnosis

Gonococcal Urethritis
