Clinical Data

A known case of SCD presented with severe anemia and leukocytosis. He suffered from infection and severe bone pain and He received blood transfusion 2 days ago.

Comment / Findings

Know case of SCD His electrophoresis on both HPLC & capillary electrophoresis reveals HbS , HbD, HbA2 , Hb F & HbA.

These findings are consistent with transfused SCD with Sickle cell/Hb D disease double heterozygosity phenotype.

Both HbS and Hb D interact together to produce moderately severe haemolytic anaemia , sickeled cells and target cells are seen

Final Diagnosis

Transfused sickle cell/Hb D disease double heterozygosity
